Mohegan Sun Online Sportsbook is not yet live in Connecticut. This review is speculative and will be updated when Mohegan Sun launches its sportsbook.
Mohegan Sun is one brand you’re likely to see when legal sports betting comes to Connecticut.
The state has passed legislation and signed it into law, along with amending tribal-state compacts. It’s eyeing fall 2021 to launch, with the Mohegan Tribe due to receive a license to offer sports betting at its Mohegan Sun casino and online, as well.
It first appeared as if Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment would partner with the Kambi Group on an online sportsbook. In June 2021, however, the tribe amended its agreement with Kambi to enable it to work with another partner. It already had a longtime relationship with FanDuel, having begun a daily fantasy sports partnership in 2016.
The split from Kambi has meant that Mohegan Sun can extend its FanDuel partnership to sports betting. FanDuel already operates online sportsbooks in 10 states, including in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. With it now set to supply online sports betting in Connecticut via the Mohegan Sun license, this gives us a pretty good idea of what it would look like.
The Mohegan Sun Sportsbook will no doubt provide a welcome offer to new customers, and perhaps multiple offers. There will likely also be ongoing promotions for regular bettors.
One common offer at online sportsbooks is a “risk-free” bet for new customers. FanDuel, for example, offers a risk-free first bet for up to $1,000 at its online sportsbooks in other states. Anyone can claim the offer. Simply create an account, make a deposit and place your first bet. There are no restrictions on the bet. If that bet loses, you receive site credit worth the equivalent of your bet up to a maximum of $1,000.
Since it is a site credit, you still have to wager those funds again and cannot simply make a withdrawal. However, there are no other playthrough requirements associated with the credit (i.e., you don’t have to wager a certain amount in order to claim the credit). You have 14 days to use the credit, otherwise you lose it.
The risk-free bet is a nice welcome offer, although of course if your first bet wins, the bonus does not apply. Even so, the offer gives new users a chance to make an initial bet at reduced risk.

Everyone betting at Mohegan Sun Sportsbook can expect to find special promotions running periodically. FanDuel offers a large number of these occasional promos, often associated with particular games or sports. The duration for these promotions is often limited, but they rotate frequently with new ones, meaning there is never any lack of promos at any given time.
FanDuel also frequently offers free-to-play games through its daily fantasy sports site and sportsbook. These include sport-specific contests like the Over/Under NBA-TNT game and NBA InPlay, the Swing for the Green golf picking game, Fantasy Horse Racing, Captain Morgan Soccer Pick’em and the like. These free-to-play games cost nothing, with the site providing prize pools.
Mohegan Sun, like all major casinos, has a loyalty rewards program. It is called Momentum and is a tier-based program offering perks, discounts and other benefits to frequent customers.
It is possible online users of the new Mohegan Sun Sportsbook will be able to participate in the casino’s loyalty program, as well. If so, that could allow higher volume players to win additional free bets, extra bonuses and other benefits.
Creating an online sportsbook account is easy and takes only a couple of minutes. It is likely Mohegan Sun will let users create a single account to both wager at the sportsbook and play games at the online casino in Connecticut.
To register, head to the Mohegan Sun website and follow the directions to sign up. Doing so will require sharing some personal information:
Providing personal information enables Mohegan Sun to know you are indeed who you say you are, as well as to help ensure the security of your account. Later you can deposit funds and begin placing wagers, at which time you’ll need to provide other information in order to enable banking with the site.
Like other online sportsbooks, Mohegan Sun will almost certainly offer a variety of different sports to bet on, and different types of bets. These will include all of the most common traditional sports bets as well as some less common proposition bets and more exotic wagers.
Again, looking at what FanDuel offers in other states provides an idea of the types of betting users will find at the Mohegan Sun Connecticut Sportsbook. You can count on the following wagers to be among the options:
Placing a moneyline bet means betting on one side to win outright. When making this classic, “straight” bet, a successful bet on an underdog will win more than a successful bet on the favorite.
With American odds, the favorite will have a negative odds number, and the underdog’s odds will be positive. Those numbers show you how much a winning bet pays. If you bet UConn as a favorite to win at -115, a bet of $115 would pay out $100. If you bet on the Huskies as a +130 underdog and they win, a bet of $100 would pay $130.
Making a point spread bet means your wager will take the margin of victory into account. In this case, the spread number will indicate the favorite and underdog.
If the New England Patriots are a four-and-a-half-point favorite against the New York Jets, they would appear as “-4.5” and would have to win by five or more points to cover the spread. Meanwhile, in that same game, the Jets would appear as a “+4.5” underdog and would need to avoid losing by five or more for a point spread bet on them to win. Usually the odds for both sides of a point spread will be around -110, meaning a bet of $110 would win $100.
A totals bet, also called an over/under bet, is a wager on whether the total number of points in a game goes over or under a certain amount. For instance, the line for the Connecticut Sun vs. New York Liberty game might be 159.5 points. If you bet the over, the two teams would need to combine to score 160 or more for you to win. Bet the under, and they’d have to score no more than 159 for you to win your bet. The odds for both over and under are also usually right around -110.
“Props” or proposition bets are wagers on outcomes that are separate from the overall result of a game. These can include player props like how many points Jonquel Jones will score or team props like how many rebounds the Connecticut Huskies will gather in the first half. You may also find game props like whether the final combined score will be odd or even.
FanDuel usually highlights moneyline, point spread and totals bets, but if you click “More wagers,” you often find lots of props on various statistical performances by individuals or teams. These can feature a range of odds and payouts.
If you look under a given sport, you’ll often find a number of futures bets available, as well. All of them will concern events that will be determined at a later date, such as bets on which team will win the Super Bowl or which player will win an MVP award.
These wagers can yield big payouts, particularly when betting on long shots but also when betting on favorites. For example, before the season starts, even the most favored team to win a championship might have odds of +500, meaning a $100 bet would pay $500 if correct.
Parlay bets combine two or more bets into one wager, with each “leg” of the parlay having to be correct in order for the bet to pay out. FanDuel’s design makes it easy to build parlays in your bet slip, calculating odds and payouts for you automatically as you do.
Parlays can have fairly long odds and thus big payouts if they hit. They also can be quite difficult to win, however, since they require all of your bets to succeed.
The Mohegan Sun Sportsbook will also offer lots of chances to participate in live betting, also known as in game betting. Live betting involves wagering on games that are in progress and can include all sorts of options. These include moneyline, point spread and totals bets for which the odds (and payouts) change as the game goes along. They additionally can include various props, like bets on the outcome of the next play.
You’ll likely find other options in the Mohegan Sun Sportsbook, as well, including alternate spreads, alternate totals, player combo props, same-game parlays and more. If you open up a particular NBA, MLB, NFL or NHL game (for instance), you’ll find dozens or even hundreds of potential wagers.
FanDuel accepts wagers for a number of sports at its sportsbooks in other states, which means Mohegan Sun Sportsbook visitors should find a similar variety, including the following:
For most of these sports, you’ll find all the major leagues and/or conferences represented, both professional and collegiate. In truth, you’ll be hard-pressed not to find a particular sport or game available to bet upon, whether US-based or international.
Expect the Mohegan Sun Sportsbook to feature a smart, effective design enabling users to find, choose and place wagers easily, as well as to perform banking operations and other functions with ease.
The FanDuel online sportsbook has received positive reviews from users, helping make it one of the most popular choices in states where it is live. FanDuel integrates its sportsbook with its daily fantasy sports site, enabling easy switching between the two. Also, in states where other forms of online gambling are legal, FanDuel integrates the sportsbook with its online casino.
The FanDuel Sportsbook features an attractive blue, black and white color scheme with toolbars across the top and three columns below.
To the left are popular sports and events, an alphabetical list of all sports, and other links including a betting guide, information about responsible gambling, customer support and more. Down the center are currently highlighted games and/or live betting, and when you select a sport and drill down into a game, that’s where you’ll see all of the available wagers. On the right is your betting slip. As you make selections, your bets appear in the slip, where you can eventually confirm and submit them.
The design is intuitive and easy to navigate, and there’s never any doubt where to find a given contest or bet. There’s a button linking to the cashier, as well, enabling quick access for depositing and withdrawing as well as other account management.
FanDuel additionally has a well-regarded app available for both iOS (Apple) and Android users. The app includes all of the same features as the browser-based version of the site, including banking options. The Mohegan Sun Sportsbook will no doubt offer an app as well, enabling bettors to place their wagers on the go.
Whether using the web-based site or app, the Mohegan Sun Sportsbook will employ geolocation technology to ensure users are physically located within the state of Connecticut whenever they place their wagers. You’ll be able to access your account when outside the state, but in order to make real money bets, you’ll need to be in CT.
Most online sportsbooks offer numerous ways to deposit and withdraw funds. The choices at Mohegan Sun Sportsbook will likely resemble what FanDuel has available in other states, with perhaps a difference or two depending on Connecticut’s particular regulations.
As noted above, FanDuel typically integrates its daily fantasy sports site and sportsbook, meaning those in Connecticut should only need to create a single account to participate on either one.
However, in most states FanDuel separates users’ accounts into distinct “wallets,” one for DFS and one for sportsbook gambling. Thus if you do play DFS on FanDuel, you’ll want to be sure you are depositing into the correct place when you want to bet there. There are a few exceptions of states where users can share funds across both the daily fantasy sports site and the sportsbook. It remains to be seen how the Mohegan Sun Sportsbook in Connecticut will handle this issue.
Expect some or all of the following depositing methods to be available, and possibly others:
The minimum deposit at other FanDuel Sportsbooks is $10.
There will be fewer options for withdrawing, although still plenty from which to choose:
Some methods for withdrawing (e.g., PayPal, Venmo, online banking, prepaid card) will be available only if you have also deposited using that same method. When withdrawing funds, processing times vary according to the method chosen. For example, PayPal typically takes no more than 48 hours, online banking can take two to four business days, and a check in the mail can take seven to 10 days.
The sportsbook imposes no fees on deposits or withdrawals. However, your bank or other financial transaction providers might charge a fee when sending money to or from the sportsbook.
FanDuel first launched its daily fantasy sports site in 2009, and in 2018 opened its first sportsbook. Over the years, it has consistently earned good marks for customer service, and it is safe to assume it’ll bring that same high level of support to Connecticut.
In other states, the FanDuel Sportsbook features an extensive, searchable FAQ section answering the most common queries. You can also submit a ticket describing your question and receive a quick response via email. A third option is live chat, available on both the web-based browser and app.
Of course, the Mohegan Sun casino has been around even longer, first opening in 1996, and as a tourist destination has always emphasized customer service, as well. It’s safe to expect that Mohegan Sun’s new online sportsbook will similarly prioritize a quality customer experience.
