DraftKings Sportsbook Review

Visit: DraftKings Sportsbook.

New Jersey online sports betting is on the way. And one of the early movers in the space will be a familiar name from the world of daily fantasy sports: DraftKings.

The No. 1 DFS operator is now offering sports betting in NJ (among other states in the future). Here’s a look at what DraftKings is offering, and what it does on the DFS side.

DraftKings Sportsbook

DraftKings sports betting will be a new thing for the operator that has traditionally stayed in its lane of offering real-money fantasy contests. But those days are quickly coming to an end.

DraftKings is partnering with land-based casino Resorts Atlantic City to offer online wagering officially, starting Aug. 6.

DraftKings sports betting: When and where can you bet?

DraftKings Sportsbook is not yet live. But we expect it to launch in either August or September, pending approval from New Jersey regulators.

The sports betting offering from DraftKings will be available to anyone located within New Jersey’s borders, whether they are a resident or not — as long as they are 21 years of age.

You will likely be able to place bets in other states with DraftKings in the future — including New York — but the timetable and locations are to be determined.

What can you bet on at DraftKings?

You’ll likely have the full menu you might expect to find at any online sportsbook. DraftKings will offer wagering on all major sports — think football, baseball and basketball — as well as individual sports (golf, tennis).

DraftKings will offer most common types of wagers: moneylines, point spreads, futures, props, parlays and likely in-play betting.

What will DraftKings Sportsbook software look like?

We’re still not sure of that — short of a little tease we got from the company’s founders. What do we know?

  • We know that the company is partnering with Kambi Group on its sports betting product. Kambi is a well-established sports betting platform provider based in Europe.
  • There will be both a sports betting app and a browser-based sportsbook. The product appears to be separate from the DFS platform.

DraftKings sports betting deposit bonus

When you deposit, you get a free matched bet of up to $200. You can also get a bet matched for any amount less than that.

DraftKings daily fantasy sports

Here is more on the existing DFS product that has allowed DraftKings to take over from FanDuel as the market leader.

DraftKings currently offers daily fantasy contests where users pick a team of real-world athletes to compete against other users for real money prizes, sometimes in the millions of dollars.

What sports does DraftKings offer DFS for?

DraftKings offers contests on the following sports:

  • Golf
  • MLB
  • Nascar
  • NBA
  • NHL
  • NFL
  • MMA
  • Soccer
  • CFL
  • Esports
  • WNBA
  • Euroleague

What contest types does DraftKing offer?

  • Guaranteed Prize Pool: The entire prize pool is paid out no matter how many players enter.
  • User Generated: Contest automatically closes if it does not fill. Entry fees are then refunded to players.
  • Head-to-Head: Winner gets the whole prize pool.
  • 50/50’s: Teams that finish in the top 50 percent of the field win cash.
  • Double Ups: Winning users receive double their entry fee.
  • Qualifier Contests: Prizes are entry tickets to higher stakes contests.
  • Multipliers: Winners get 3x to 10x their entry fee.
  • Beginner: You can enter if you have played in 50 or fewer contests and have not earned an experience badge.
  • Casual: Anyone who has not earned an experience badge can enter.
  • Free Contests: There is no fee to enter these contests. Prizes are entry tickets or DraftKings Dollars.

DraftKings software

DraftKings’ desktop software is intuitive. The header menu makes it easy to switch between sports, and the filters on the left side allow for easy navigation by contest type and field size. Live contests are indicated. Essential features like create a contest, create a lineup, and strategy & research are prominent. You will be able to find what you are looking for quickly.

However, the design is awkward to look at. The menu options and images are gaudy and the prime space at the top where your eyes gravitate is filled with promotions. Everything seems poorly laid out. The lobby can be disorienting to navigate until you understand where all the features are.

Overall, the platform is functional and works well in modern browsers, but it could use some aesthetic improvements.

DraftKings mobile app

DraftKings’ offers free-to-download apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. You must have location services turned on during download and installation.

The dedicated mobile application lets you quickly access the lobby where you can view contests by sport, live contests and upcoming tournaments. It also offers lots of functionality including “create a contest,” “create a lineup” and “friend search.” There is also a PLAY NOW option for those who are in a hurry.

The design is crisp and clean and uses drop-down menus for intuitive navigation. Contest filters are comprehensive and easy to use.

It’s not flashy, but it’s a solid overall experience. It’s also definitely more appealing than the browser-based application.

DraftKings deposits and withdrawals

You can deposit with any major credit/debit card including Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. You can also use PayPal, as well as Visa, MasterCard, or American Express gift cards. You must deposit with a payment method registered in your name.

Your cashout will be issued as a refund on payments made during the 90 days preceding your withdrawal request, and any remaining funds will be sent using PayPal or check. For example, if you deposited $50 using Visa and then requested a $200 withdrawal a few weeks later, you will receive a $50 refund to your Visa card, followed by a $150 payment through cheque or PayPal.

If you deposited via gift card, refundable deposits are given up to the value of that card.

DraftKing requires you to fill out a W-9 before withdrawing.

Withdrawals to PayPal or credit/debit card take between two to eight business days to arrive. A check takes two to three weeks.

What are DraftKings’ fees?

The last update to the DraftKing fee structure was on Oct. 19, 2017. The commission varies by game type; here’s a brief overview:

  • Guaranteed Standard: fees range from 5.67 percent for contests with an entry of $1,000 or more to 15.90% for contests with entries in the $0.01 – $5 range. Note that tournaments with a $1 million-plus prize pool and a fee of $5,000 or less carry a 10 percent commission.
  • Guaranteed Multipliers (2x-5x): 5.67 percent for entries of $1,000 or more, up to 13.05 percent for $0.01 – $5 entries.
  • Non-Guaranteed Standard: 5.67 percent for entries of at least $1,000 and 10 percent for entries below $5. In case the contest does not fill, all entry fees are refunded.

Generally, contests without guaranteed prize pools feature the lowest fees.

You can request to be notified by email if the fee structure changes.

DraftKings VIP Program

DraftKings hosts a VIP program, which they designed to reward loyal customers. As part of this program, you will receive one Frequent Player Point (FPP) for every dollar you spend on tournament entries. You can then use these points to purchase free tickets, as follows:

  • $1 ticket: 550 FPP
  • $3 ticket: 1,650 FPP
  • $5 ticket: 2,750 FPP
  • $10 ticket: 5,500 FPP
  • $20 ticket: 11,000 FPP
  • $25 ticket: 13, 750 FPP
  • $50 ticket: 27, 500 FPP
  • $100 ticket: 55,000 FPP
  • $215 ticket: 118,250 FPP
  • $300 ticket: 165,000 FPP
  • $444 ticket: 244,200 FPP
  • $1,500 ticket: 825,000 FPP
  • $5,300 ticket: 2,915,000 FPP

The above translates to 550 FPPs per dollar or the equivalent of 0.18% in cashback. This is in line with the cashback offered by other DFS industry leaders including FanDuel.

Additionally, earning FPPs allows you to advance through DraftKings’ tiered ladder. The following levels are available:
