Golden Nugget has agreed to a sportsbook platform deal with Scientific Games (SG) as part of an expanded online gambling partnership in the US.
Under the new terms, Golden Nugget will use SG’s full OpenSports product suite and managed trading services from Don Best Sports. Deployment will start with mobile sports betting in New Jersey, with additional states included as they launch.
The agreement will eventually see Golden Nugget move off the SBTech platform entirely, as previously suggested following the supplier’s acquisition by DraftKings. The parties expect the switch to happen before next football season.
The expanded deal also includes an option to roll out OpenSports at retail locations in NJ, Mississippi, and Nevada.
Sports betting becomes another key cog in the existing relationship between Golden Nugget and Scientific Games.
The former will also continue to use the SG online casino platform and content aggregation system (OpenGaming) in New Jersey until 2024. That arrangement extends to Pennsylvania and, potentially, other states that legalize online gaming in the future.
“We have a long history with Scientific Games, and their technology is a cornerstone of our sports betting and iGaming strategy,” said Thomas Winter, SVP for online gaming for Golden Nugget.
“We’re thrilled to continue working with them to bring a consistent and best-in-class experience to our players across multiple products nationwide.”
Golden Nugget operated the second largest New Jersey online casino brand in 2019 behind only Betfair/FanDuel, which also falls under its license.
In the ultra-competitive #NJ #online #casino market, Betfair-FanDuel was the top performer (in GGR terms) in 2019, according to @EilersKrejcik ests. Of note, three of the top five brands were non-endemic brands, while two of the top three were DFS (or DFS-ish) brands. pic.twitter.com/rVhCgpC9LR

That success, however, has not crossed over into sports betting.
Jordan Levin, group CEO for SG Digital, said: “Following Golden Nugget’s transition to our solutions, we look forward to launching Sports on top of our long-standing player account and iGaming relationship.”
