It’s hard to believe it, but it’s been 15 years since Chris Moneymaker won the 2003 World Series of Poker Main Event.

His improbable journey to poker immortality began with a small-buy-in online satellite at PokerStars. To honor the 15th anniversary of Moneymaker’s historic WSOP victory, PokerStars is launching the Moneymaker PSPC Tour.

“It’s been 15 years since the big win and it only feels like yesterday. It was one of the most incredible experiences of my life and I want to give someone else the opportunity to feel that #winningmoment,” said Moneymaker, a Poker Hall of Fame finalist for the second consecutive year. “I’ve played a lot of poker for years and during that time I’ve got to know lots of people at live events and meet-ups.

“Now US fans will have the chance to win an amazing prize and have some fun along the way. Come join me to play, you never know, this could lead to a life-changing moment like I had. I am looking forward to playing with some familiar faces at every stop.”

What’s different about the Moneymaker tour

The first thing you’ll notice about the Moneymaker PSPC Tour is the extremely low buy-in.

According to the press release, “The tour is designed to give players the chance to emulate Chris’ win back in 2003 when he turned $86 into $2,500,000 by beating 838 players at the WSOP Main Event, sparking the famous ‘Moneymaker Effect’.”

As such, each of the nine stops on the Moneymaker PSPC Tour will feature an affordable $86 buy-in Main Event tournament.

But there’s also an added bonus.

In addition to the prize money, each winner will also receive a Platinum Pass (valued at $30,000) to the inaugural PokerStars Players No Limit Hold’em Championship (PSPC) in the Bahamas this coming January.

The $30,000 Platinum Pass that PokerStars is adding to the pot at each of the nine stops are the equivalent of nearly 350 entries, which means there will be a lot of added value.

The Moneymaker PSPC Tour schedule

The Moneymaker PSPC Tour kicks off on Aug. 4 at Stones Gambling Hall in Sacramento, Calif.  The tour schedule currently wraps up in mid-October at Maryland Live!, but more stops could still be added.

Eight of the stops will be at land-based casinos across the US, and the ninth will take place online at
