Connecticut’s gaming tribes — Mashantucket Pequot (Foxwoods Resort Casino) and Mohegan (Mohegan Sun) — publicly supported the legalization of online gambling this year when the subject was broached during sports betting discussions.
In testimony, both tribes are in favor of an omnibus approach that would legalize online gambling with sports betting. Unfortunately, the Connecticut legislature is dragging its feet on both issues and seems less inclined to consider online gambling.
One of the tribes, the Mashantucket Pequot, isn’t sitting on its hands waiting for the legislature to act. Foxwoods has entered into two strategic partnerships that will see the casino offer online gaming on-property, and to people in certain jurisdictions around the globe.
The partnerships aren’t a response to the legislature’s inaction, but they could push lawmakers into revisiting online gambling next year.
After announcing a partnership in December, Foxwoods went live with Authentic Roulette on Monday.
“This groundbreaking partnership is uniting players across the globe for a one-of-a-kind gaming experience,” Executive Director of Online Gaming at Foxwoods Seth Young said in a release. “Taking the Foxwoods brand international is a monumental achievement and a testament to our position as a leader in the gaming industry. Authentic Gaming is an incredible partner and together we are thrilled to bring this revolutionary gaming opportunity to life.”
“Foxwoods is paving the way forward by taking land-based gaming tables online. Both Foxwoods and Authentic Gaming are highly passionate about innovation, which is why we are both equally excited about giving online players all over the world the opportunity to play in the largest resort casino in North America from their mobile devices, tablets and computers,” said Jonas Delin, CEO of Authentic Gaming.
The single zero European roulette table is located in the Club Newport VIP Lounge at the Grand Pequot Tower, and available at multiple European online casino platforms. Delin listed Betsson Group, Kindred Group, NYX Gaming Group & LeoVegas Mobile Gaming Group as some of the Authentic Gaming clients offering Foxwoods’ live Authentic Roulette.
Foxwoods is the first to bring the US casino floor to an international audience, but it’s not the first US casino to broadcast online roulette from its casino floor. Golden Nugget in Atlantic City uses similar technology to broadcast Live Casino Floor Roulette to online gaming patrons in the state of New Jersey.
On-premise mobile gaming is also in the works as Foxwoods entered into a deal with Pari-Play in February. That laid the groundwork for on-premises, real-money online gambling.
“Foxwoods has adopted Pariplay’s ground-breaking interactive gaming platform eyeON, allowing guests at North America’s largest resort casino to enjoy digital gaming on-property, subject to any necessary legislation and regulatory review and approval,” the February press release said.
As Online Poker Report noted at the time, both sides see on-premise mobile as a jumping off point, as the deal also lays the groundwork for statewide online gaming:
“The Pariplay on-premises solution is an exciting new amenity that will allow our guests to game anywhere that is legally permissible, and will allow us to prepare for broader opportunities outside of the four walls of the physical property.”
“It is also an excellent new business opportunity for this organization, and by proxy the state of Connecticut, as iGaming has demonstrated its ability to both drive new revenues and augment the operations at brick-and-mortar facilities.”
