The number of New Jersey online casinos offering live dealer table games grew by three last week. All three GVC-powered NJ online casinosBorgata, playMGM and PartyCasino — soft-launched live dealer games.

In August 2016, Golden Nugget became the first online casino operator to offer live dealer games in the New Jersey market. One of Golden Nugget’s sub-brands, Betfair Casino, came second when it began offering live dealer games from Golden Nugget’s studio in May 2017.

Borgata and its sub-brands are the first online casinos not under the Golden Nugget’s licensing umbrella to launch live dealer games.

But that doesn’t mean Golden Nugget isn’t playing a major role in Borgata’s new live dealer offerings.

If these live-dealer games look familiar it’s because they are

If you’ve played Golden Nugget’s or Betfair’s live dealer games, Borgata’s offerings could feel like déjà vu. The reason for this familiarity is simple; Borgata live dealer games are powered by the same software (Ezugi) and originate from the same place, Golden Nugget’s live dealer studio.

Like Betfair, Borgata struck a deal with Golden Nugget that allows it to share certain live dealer tables. It appears Borgata will also lease space within Golden Nugget’s live dealer studio to offer exclusive-to-Borgata live dealer blackjack tables – two at this point.

As seen in the table below, not all games are available across all of the sites. Both Golden Nugget and Borgata possess some exclusive tables.

Real competition coming in NJ

Golden Nugget’s monopoly is over. But thus far, it’s making money from the other online casinos’ live dealer games.
That will come to an end sometime in H2 2018, when Evolution Gaming opens a rival live dealer studio in New Jersey.

The news of an Evolution live dealer studio launch comes via an earnings call and accompanying presentation that stated, “New Jersey studio planned for second half 2018.”

At which Atlantic City casino the Evolution live dealer studio will be is still a mystery. The company has said more details are forthcoming, before the end of Q2.

The live dealer difference

Live dealer has been a key driver of growth for Golden Nugget. According to Senior Vice President and General Manager, Online Gaming Thomas Winter, online table game revenue rose 150 percent from the launch of live dealer games to January 2018.

Not surprisingly, the number of live dealer tables and hours of operation have also increased dramatically. At launch, Golden Nugget offered three live dealer tables (one blackjack, one roulette, and one baccarat) from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. seven days a week.

Now, Golden Nugget boasts no less than nine live dealer tables that run from 2 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Monday through Wednesday and 12 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Thursday through Sunday.
