The Atlantic City casino market is going to get very crowded by the summer.
The city is preparing for two casinos to reopen their doors in the coming months, increasing the number of operational casinos from seven to nine.
The former Revel Casino will open as Ocean Resort Casino, and the former Trump Taj Mahal will relaunch as Hard Rock Atlantic City. Both properties are hoping to open their doors in time for the summer season.
In addition to joining an already bustling land-based casino market, it’s now confirmed that the new facilities also plan to offer NJ online casinos.
On Monday, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement confirmed that both new casinos — Ocean Resort and Hard Rock AC– have applied for an internet gaming license. Whether either will offer NJ online poker sites is unknown.
The confirmation comes on the heels of an announced multi-year partnership between Ocean Resort Casino and GAN to provide real-money online gambling.
According to GAN, “This new Internet gaming destination is currently expected to launch in H1 2018 and will contribute materially to GAN’s revenue and earnings in H2 2018.”
SBTECH CEO Richard Carter specifically mentioned New Jersey when the deal was announced:
“This partnership is logical for SBTECH and permits SBTECH to rapidly introduce its sports betting technology and services to a wide range of US casinos with a view to being the first to settle a US sports bet online and on-property in States such as New Jersey and Pennsylvania, in close collaboration with GAN.”
Who will power the Hard Rock online casino is unclear at this time. That said, there is no shortage of options.
Hard Rock could turn to any number of existing online operators in the market, or help a new operator get its foot in the New Jersey door.
One possibility is Gaming Innovation Group (GiG). Back in October, GiG announced a partnership with a “large, well-known international casino brand,” that will see GiG act as the platform provider.
With the launch of Hard Rock and Ocean Resort, every operational casino in the market will be offering online gambling. The other five:
The seven online operators will possess no less than two dozen individual online gambling websites.
