NJ Online Poker Check-In: PokerStars Makes Sunday Major Buy-Ins Half Price

Here’s a look at what’s new in the world of NJ online poker sites, including PokerStars’ Sunday promotion and a look back at the NJ Poker Classic.

WSOP / 888

Major changes/announcements: The date for player pools combining for New Jersey, Nevada and Delaware online poker are still unknown.
New tournaments: None.
Prize pool/Structure changes: None
Upcoming online series: TBA.
Good news/bad news: The online series that ended last week — the NJ Poker Classic — was great. Most of the events for the WSOP NJ and 888 Poker NJ series surpassed their guarantees, and the overall schedule was good. Announcing the series earlier than one week beforehand would be something I would request they do for next time.

I also didn’t receive any emails or social media notifications related to the series. This is disappointing because we want to give players ample notice so they can be in NJ to play. Tweeting one day ahead of time that the series is starting doesn’t seem optimal.

Borgata / PartyPoker / PlayMGM

Major changes/announcements: $10,000 WPT Bellagio 5 Diamond Classic satellites are winding up this week on PlayMGM, with the last online package qualifier this Sunday. Also, the top three leaderboard finishers from Nov. 2-30 on PlayMGM will earn entry into the Dec. 3 $535 satellite into the $12k WPT Bellagio package.
New tournaments: None.
Prize pool/Structure changes: None.
Upcoming online series: TBA.
Good news/bad news: Four of the five $12k WPT Bellagio packages have been awarded, and the last satellite package takes place this Sunday. This was the first satellite series offered for a WPT $10k in NJ online poker, so if we wanted these to run again it was important for them to do well.

And they did: The satellite series was a success, furthering the likelihood of more packages being offered in the future. This consistent online to live crossover is only taking place on the Borgata / PartyPoker NJ / PlayMGM network. It seems like the sites will have more in store for NJ players.

Major changes/announcements: The Sunday Majors on PokerStars this Sunday are half price, with the usual guarantees.
New tournaments: None.
Prize pool/Structure changes: None.
Upcoming online series: TBA.
Good news/bad news: The half price Sunday tournament promotion that Stars runs every few months is a great way to give players who play lower stakes a shot at playing a full Sunday schedule.  The player pools obviously increase substantially, but overall I think it’s a good poker economy booster and am happy it seems to be in their promotion rotation.
