New Jersey’s nascent online poker industry continues to impress, with strong promotions and marketing helping to extend the state’s enviable, and to date uninterrupted, trajectory of steady growth.

Top 3 gain as NJ online poker hits new highs

Data from the latest Scouting Report – a daily analysis publication covering the global online poker industry produced by –  shows that regulated online poker’s momentum in New Jersey has yet to subside:

Regulated online poker traffic through Jan 27th

The primary beneficiary of the upward trend:, which notched an impressive – albeit likely largely ephemeral – 29% bump in traffic (more on that below).

Less impressive in relative terms but still impressive in absolute terms: 888’s All American Poker Network bumped up 8% week-to-week and the market leading combined network of PartyPoker NJ and Borgata Poker chipped up 7%.

Reload the players, reload the traffic

What powered’s impressive gains?

PokerScout cites the reload bonus – 100% up to $400 – available from January 19th through the 26th as the primary driver of growth, but noted that “[i]f history is any guide, traffic will drop pretty quickly now that the claim period is over.”

The WSOP Online Championship series that spanned last week was likely a factor as well.

And now, the plateau?

After eight straight weeks of steady growth, PokerScout sees the New Jersey market for regulated online poker heading into a new phase:

The New Jersey market has reached the approximate size that we predicted based on population alone. Although there may still be some room to grow, the market will probably level off sometime this spring, if not sooner.

While players and the industry may wish it weren’t so, at some point New Jersey will bump up against the limits of population. Whether those limits echo the participation rates of the pre-Black Friday industry or have been expanded by the entrance of big-brand casinos like Caesars and the Borgata is a question that remains to be answered.
