New players to Merge Network poker rooms won’t have to worry about gaming the VIP system for maximum rewards any longer, as the network has announced the impending return of flat rakeback for any rooms on the network that want to offer it.
From PAS:
The policy change is likely an answer to Lock Poker moving to the Cake Poker Network, which is expected to hurt liquidity, with estimates ranging from 10%-40%. With Lock Poker’s purchase of the Cake Poker Network, they are also upping rakeback to 36%.
Merge Gaming skins will determine whether they wish to offer rakeback. Currently, Carbon Poker, Aced and PDC Poker have committed to offering rakeback with many more expected to jump on board. Rakeback will be daily paid by the poker room at a 35% contributed rate, with no deductions applied to MGR. These were the same terms that grandfathered rakeback players have.
Let’s see if they bump the rate to 37% just to stick it to Lock and Cake a bit. It’s hard to say how much traffic this will drive to Merge, as the network already gave players “one last shot” at rakeback a few months ago.
